Supporting health beyond the medical standpoint, Lancaster EMS Community Paramedicine program is doing just that.
It delivers food orders to homebound patients across Lancaster County through a partnership with the Lancaster County Food Hub and other area food banks.
“Today we are coming down to the Food Hub to gather some supplies for our patients,” said Martina Montanez, a Licensed practical nurse with Lancaster EMS’ Community Paramedicine Program. “The Food Hub provides the food, and we transport it to patients who either don’t have access to a vehicle or any means to come down and pick up the food for themselves.”
Montanez said roughly 15 to 20 team members participate, making deliveries multiple times each week.
The packages vary by availability but typically include nonperishable items, some meats, boxed goods, and, at times, toiletries such as toilet paper, detergent, soap and toothpaste.
At the Food Hub, the partnership helps solve one of the hardest parts of fighting hunger: getting food where it needs to go.
